{Brick Wall] Eleanor Scott / Haskell - Saskatoon
Wondering if anyone has some genealogy tips for a brick wall of mine. I'm looking for Elinor Haskell (nee Scott). My first trace of her is in the 1911 Census in Saskatoon, where she lists her date of birth as 1890, United States. She lists her age as 20, and living with her husband Charles Stanley Haskell. Interestingly, Charles is in the 1911 Census twice, once with his wife in Saskatoon, and also with his parents in Manitoba.
Sometime between the census and the end of 1912, she has a daughter, Bernice. From January 18-January 22 1913, Charles Haskell runs a notice in the Saskatoon Star, claiming that his wife "Eleanor Scott Haskell" has abandoned him and he is not responsible for any debts she incurs (talk about shade!). By the 1916 census, Bernice is living with her grandparents in Manitoba and her father is dead. He dies in WW1.
When Bernice is older, and living in Toronto, she lists Eleanor Scott on her marriage certificate as her mother and a newspaper announcement states that she was given away by her grandfather, so it seems she certainly knew that she was not raised by her birth mother and knew her birth mother's name. But I can't find any trace of Eleanor. No marriage certificate for her and Charles (in either Saskatchewan or Manitoba). No birth certificate for Bernice. According to the census, Eleanor and Charles were Presbyterian, but Bernice later converts to Catholicism.
Does anyone know if the Saskatchewan archives can help when you don't have an exact date of birth or marriage? Where can I find possible baptismal records for Presbyterian churches in Saskatchewan? Any other ideas for sources? There seems to be an Eleanor Scott who died in 1925, but I have no way of knowing if it could be the same one.
