Are the leaders of Edinburgh city council failing to deliver on sustainable transport due to a lack of strategic thinking?
The administration in Edinburgh is failing to deliver a proper integrated mass transit solution and is currently torpedoing any chance of us getting one due to its obsession with the Roseburn alignment.
There is a clear opportunity to proceed with the southern section of the tram & the south sub but they seem obsessed with constantly pushing for something that has:
- no public support
- no Scottish gov support (see SNP manifesto)
- no broad political consensus locally
- the feel of something that no credible third party funder will want to touch with a barge poll
It’s such bad politics. Now they are risking the whole scheme being paused / cancelled due to a lack of clear strategic thinking and a focus on the one bit people don’t want!
The calls will come next week to can the whole thing, unless Labour accept the Roseburn option should be dropped and try to build a political consensus around the southern leg.
