The Mt. Gox bankruptcy has once again triggered a massive on-chain movement: In a single transaction, Bitcoin worth $739 million was moved. The sheer number is enough to generate panic in trading chats—but the crucial question isn't how much was moved, but where.

According to on-chain data from the analytics platform Arkham, the destination address is not associated with any known centralized exchange or DeFi protocol.

A Decade of Bankruptcy—and a Strictly Regulated Exit

Mt. Gox was once responsible for over 70 percent of global Bitcoin trading before the exchange collapsed in 2014 after losing approximately 850,000 BTC and filed for bankruptcy. The Japanese proceedings later transformed from liquidation to rehabilitation—with the result that creditors can be compensated in Bitcoin instead of just yen.

\*\*The rehabilitation administrator is Japanese lawyer Nobuaki Kobayashi, who must complete all repayments by October 31, 2026.\*\*

Following the latest transaction, the estate still holds approximately 34,504 BTC – worth about US$2.43 billion. This makes Mt. Gox the largest remaining Bitcoin holding of a failed exchange worldwide.

Real supply pressure doesn't arise at the moment of the trustee transfer, but only when individual creditors deposit their received BTC on exchanges – a secondary sell-off that, based on experience, occurs in tranches and partly over-the-counter (OTC) via OTC desks.

My personal conclusion:

As you can see with Mt. Gox, the liquidation of a major market participant's assets takes years. Mt. Gox will be fully liquidated this year. FTX's assets have still not been completely liquidated to prevent excessive manipulation of the crypto markets.

How significant do you think the creditors' sales will be? Will they have a major impact on the Bitcoin price?
