How to catch a char?

According to the guides online, chars can be caught in June (northern hemisphere) from 4pm to 9am in clifftop rivers. I spent about two hours fishing on a nook island this evening and in that time I caught 4 dorados, 4 arapaimas, 1 arowana, 3 tyres, 3 boots and about a million dace, cherry salmon and tilapia (which have medium shadows) and not a single bloody char.

Chars aren't meant to be half as rare as the 9 super rare fish I caught so I'm wondering if the guides are inaccurate. Can anyone corroborate that chars can be caught in June from 4pm to 9am? Thanks
