Ok so hear me out, there is quite a high chance that this will end up on WCJ, but i feel manly enough to take that :)

So i really like vintage mid century watches, for several reasons. I really like the designs, the subtleness, the everyday aspect of them, the built quality, the fact that those little mechanical machines are still running with 99+% accuracy even after decades of usage.

Ladies watches from that area are especially interesting for all the mentioned reasons. Very simple designs, tiny tiny movements and since the market for those is as dry as a bone, you can get them for the price of a starbucks coffee.

I got quite a selection by now, from important ancient brands such as angelus, enicar, alpina, etc. But my wife really doesn't share my enthusiasm, so they are solemnly collecting dust.

However i just purchased that one for 5 bucks, and was blown away by its state and beauty and decided to try something brave: Making my own type of watch strap that i could wear. I had a piece of old leather lying around, and got inspiration from one of those "wrap around" watchstraps from ladies Swatches from a couple of years ago.

And voila, a few finicky hours later this is what the outcome is. The craftsmanship has some room for improvement, well actually a lot, but its a start. Its also very annoying to put on. 🙂.

How do you like the idea? Is that something you could see yourself wearing or at least finding cool on someone else? Or is it making your fingernails crawl? Weird 2010 folky vibes? I am eager to hear your honest opinion.
