Beating the 'Nortada' winds: Which packable beach shade actually survives the Portuguese coast? (Neso vs. Shibumi vs. Blynd)

Bom dia! I’m currently finalizing the packing list for an upcoming trip where we'll be spending a lot of time on the beaches along the West Coast and the Algarve.

In my research, I've read a lot about the infamous Nortada winds. I definitely don't want to be the tourist chasing a dangerous, rogue umbrella down the beach in Cascais, but I also need something lightweight enough to pack in a checked suitcase.

I've been researching a few of the modern, travel-friendly sun shades, but I'm curious what locals or frequent visitors have actually had success with in these specific wind conditions:

  • Shibumi Shade: I know these rely entirely on the wind to stay up. Since the Portuguese coast is breezy, this seems logical, but I've read they can snap loudly. Is that going to make me a nuisance on a crowded beach in the Algarve?
  • Neso Tents (Sandbag style): These seem super popular for travel, but do the sandbags actually hold up to strong Atlantic gusts, or do the poles just collapse inward?
  • BLYND (getblynd.com): I stumbled across this newer one recently. It looks like it has a more rigid frame so it doesn't rely on the wind to hold its shape, but it still looks packable. Has anyone taken something like this out there?

Are there better options I'm missing that you can easily travel with? Or is it better to just rent heavy-duty gear from the local beach concession stands once we arrive? Appreciate any insight!
