How Does Abstraction Work In The Backup AU?

If you don’t know what the backup AU is, you have only some catching up to do (such limited content lol).

BUT, how does abstraction work in that alternate universe?

If the character were being torture all the time, surely at least some of them would have abstracted, right?

Sooo…. Is it just turned off?

OR (this is the theory part) are the character’s minds files and mind states BACKED UP, so Abel can still keep them, even after their “death”? “Backup” would make sense in this case, then.

Is it confirmed already how abstraction works in that AU? Or does my theory have solid ground?
