I built a flag coloring game for my colorblind son and now I'm sharing it with everyone

Discussion

My son loves flags. Like, obsessively loves them. He could spend hours learning about countries, their histories, their symbols.

But every flag coloring app we tried had the same problem: no color names, no audio, nothing to help him understand what he was actually painting. He'd call me over constantly just to ask, "Dad, what color is this?"

So I built one from scratch, specifically for him.

Color Flags is a casual flag coloring game built with colorblind accessibility at its core:

  • Text-to-speech reads every color name out loud as you select it
  • Every color has a clear written label, not just a swatch
  • Each area has a unique visual pattern, so you can distinguish regions even without relying on color alone
  • After completing each flag, a fun fact about that flag plays out loud via TTS, so the whole experience is audio-accessible end to end

It's free on Google Play, with no paywall — just ads, plus a one-time option to remove them. Every single feature is free for everyone, that was non-negotiable for me.

If you have a kid (or are yourself) someone who loves geography but struggled with flag apps, I'd love for you to try it.

Happy to answer any questions about it.
