Fridge Water Filter Issues
Sharing this to help others, it's related to these 2 models of water filters, UltraClarity Pro BORPLFTR50 and BORPLFTR55. But my situation may apply to other water filters that Bosch have replaced with newer versions.
I have a 1 year old 36" French door fridge/freezer with water and ice dispenser on the left hand side door, we like this unit.
The fridge shipped with the UltraClarity Pro BORPLFTR50 water filter. When I went to replace the filter, Bosch indicated that the BORPLFTR50 had been replaced by the BORPLFTR55. Okay, so trust Bosch, they should know their products.
When installed, we got the dreaded sound from the area around the left door, like a whining sound. No amount or gallons of flowing water eliminated the sound.
I put back the original BORPLFTR50 and the noise was gone! So I tried 2 more replacement BORPLFTR55 thinking this was a filter issue. Nope, noise every time.
Had a service visit 3 days ago and Bosch replaced the water filter inlet assembly thinking that was the issue. Seemed okay at first but after the technician left, the noise was back.
I tried something today with Google AI help, I turned the water valve down about half way and the noise went away. After further discussion with Google AI, I now believe the noise issue is due to a difference in the 2 water filters, apparently the design of the replacement BORPLFTR55 does not permit as much flow as the older BORPLFTR50 and has caused a water pressure turbulence issue which results in the noise.
For now I've left the water valve half open with the new BORPLFTR55 filter but I'm going to try some non-Ultra Clarity filters that may yield different water pressure/flow dynamics, e.g. Water drop brand.
Just sharing in case this helps others. 👍
