State of art instruction in American schools
So I just went down a rabbit hole of looking at the portfolios of students admitted to top American art colleges like RISD and honestly I'm blown away by the level of artistic prowess displayed by these teenagers. I realize they represent something like the top 5% of the country skills wise so it's not every USian teenager drawing and painting like that but it still seems far more commonplace than in my country. Specifically I am talking not just about technical skills, (which these students possess in spades) but their artistic vision, their ability to create brilliant original masterpieces with depth and meaning. Is it common to send children to art classes where this sort of thing is taught, or do American schools build up art skills from a young age with a thoughtfully designed curriculum? Or is there an another cultural explanation for this phenomenon? Would love to hear your thoughts
