Forced to rehome

I’m (18F) am going to college soon and my mother has decided my two cats need to be rehomed. I am fighting her tooth and nail but with me going 3 hours away there isn’t much I can do when I leave in August. I have had both cats since they were kittens now they’re 11 and 6. I grew up with these cats and they have pretty much become my entire responsibility besides the price of food and litter but I take care of everything. She has lined it up that someone takes them and it would just be the two cats together in the home and simply a change of owner and house but I’m really struggling with that entire thought process. Is there anyone who has gone through this and knows how to go about this situation. No matter what she will be rehoming them despite all protests. Any advice is welcome!
