I’m confused about Jax’s backstory

SPOILERS FOR THE LAST ACT

we learn that Jax’s mother and Father divorced sometime when he was a teen in high school and stayed with his mother though he ran away after maybe accidentally killing his mom in a fight. Does that mean when he ran away did he immediately put on the headset sometime when he was a teen and homeless or like his canon is 22 and put it on then?
