Let me hear your opinion on these telescoping slide repair coupling installation.

I like them. Much better than the compression style IMO. But here’s where I wonder, if you install them not fully stretched out, they GROW under pressure, from what I’ve seen. On 1/2”, 3/4” and 1”. I turn the water on and if I have it not fully stretched when glued in, it grows… which can suck if there is 90°s and stuff close to it. It can cause other pipes to now have a stressed joint and I’ve seen it even break a pipe after it grew a few more inches under pressure and throw off the configuration it was a part of.

So for past couple years I just install them fully stretched out, so it can’t grow much more under pressure.

Today I noticed when doing a 2” one, that it says on the slide repair coupling, to install it at halfway!?

I google it and it says so the pipe can contract and expand with the heat.

So just kind of confused now. I’ve never had an old one I installed call back on me. And I’m sure that if done halfway it’s totally going to grow and put some pressure on the pipes that I’m splicing it into…

I figure I’m just going to install them with just a little bit of slack left. So if it grows a smidge it’s not to big of an issue, but still has some room for expansion.

How do yall install them.
