Should visibility be applied to documents or to information?

Imagine you have a hierarchy of information.

You want to make most of it public, but keep a few specific sections private.

Most tools force you to either:

• share everything
• duplicate content
• split it into multiple documents/pages

Would it be useful to selectively exclude parts of the hierarchy from what other people can see?

If yes, where would you use it?
