My hot take on the PTCB exam
just wanted to share what my test looked like since I spent way too much time stressing over the wrong things during prep lol. hopefully this saves someone a headache.
basically everyone in my class kept saying to obsess over the Top 200 drugs but honestly my actual exam was super heavy on federal laws and controlled substances. like i had way more questions about DEA forms (mostly 222 and 41) and strict storage rules than actual brand/generic names. wish I spent more time on that stuff instead of doing flashcards tbh.
the math side wasn't as terrifying as people said but u definitely cannot slip up on conversions and allegations. if your math is shaky do not skip this part.
for prep material i ended up ditching the thick books pretty early on. here's the only stuff that was actually worth it:
- Amanda PharmD on YouTube: only reason I didn't completely lose my mind over the math formulas. she breaks it down so it actually makes sense if u hate math.
- Simplytests: ended up using it for practice questions cuz standard quizlets are way too basic. it has really good apps that actually mimic those weird trick questions they throw at u on the test.
- Official PTCB pretest: just used it once for a quick reality check to see where I was slacking before the final review.
overall the exam feels way more like a safety/critical thinking test than just pure memorization. usually u can easily eliminate two dumb answer choices and then u just gotta trust your gut on the remaining two.
