is it possible to fully eliminate aggression?
my girl just turned 3 and i noticed once she hit like 1-2 years old, she became pretty aggressive towards our other pets (1 other dog and 2 cats). never towards any humans. she used to fight with the other dog pretty often and it would get bad sometimes when we couldn’t separate them quick enough. it used to be over the littlest things like walking near her when someone was petting her, or if somebody dropped a piece of food in the kitchen. i think i did a pretty decent job of steering her away from this behavior for the most part. no animals in the kitchen when cooking, no animals near the table, no long lasting bones or toys without supervision, etc. and they haven’t fought in a long time. occasionally she will growl and show teeth at our newest kitten because he doesn’t know any better and gets in her face a lot. he gets the memo and leaves. she didn’t like him at first, but got accustomed very quickly and knows not to go after him. they even hangout in the dog bed together occasionally.
when she was a puppy, i had a ferret. i never let them interact beyond through the cage or if i was holding him because she played rough as a puppy. sadly he passed away before she was old enough to properly interact with him without hurting him. i’m looking to get 2 more ferrets in the next few years. ferrets are very curious and in your space animals, and don’t know that growling/showing teeth means back away. i would NEVER get more ferrets without being 100% confident she wouldn’t harm them. is there any way to actually train this aggression out of her? i haven’t gotten her evaluated for training or anything because it isn’t cheap, and i’ve always been told it’s a hit or miss. mostly miss with pyrs cause they’re stubborn. thanks for any advice yall have
