Trying to Get Back to Your World After You Were Isekai'd [A4A] [Dwarf Speaker] [Stubborn Human Listener] [Transgender Listener] [Isekai] [Fantasy] [Coming Out] [Questing] [Adventuring] [Misconceptions] [Comfort for Being Trans] [Found Family] [TW: Discussions of Bigotry]

I was listening to an isekai audio one night where the listener character had to choose between staying in this new world or going back to Earth. And while this type of plot point has run through my brain dozens of times by now, for some reason this time I suddenly realized "My HRT is in this world, and it wouldn't be in the cool fantasy one. Crap." So that inspired a story about an isekai'd trans listener trying to get back home so they could keep taking their hormones. It brings a slight element of realism into a genre that doesn't often consider it, which I think helps this story stand out from the crowd a bit. Isekais are often meant to be fantastical escapism, after all. And I still tried to include that element to a degree, even in this more "realistic" setting.

I wish I could say that making the speaker a dwarf was a genius commentary on our world's expectations for what someone of a certain gender "should" look like, but really, I just didn't want to use a human. And I was also tired of going with my normal substitute, treating elves like fantasy humans. So I defaulted to dwarves after that. But it ended up working out well, especially with some of the discourse I've seen in fantasy communities about whether dwarven women should have beards and such. So really, this choice was a happy accident that led to additional depth in the story. This is only my first of 3 planned pride scripts for the month of June, so I hope you're looking forward to it!
