Does Dottore have a mad scientist's laboratory? A test
How does Dottore's labs fare in the mad scientist lab test based on the Tv Tropes article on mad scientist laboratories? I decided to find out.
The article I used: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MadScientistLaboratory
Please keep in mind that while this particular article is good, their articles on Genshin, and Dottore in particular, are filled with misinfo, since it's an "anyone can edit and moderation is bad"- kind of site.
Anyways
To be a quintessential mad scientist's laboratory, a laboratory must fit most of the descriptors that Tv Tropes has provided me with. Let's see...
Operating table? Check.
Jacob's ladder? I don't know if Dottore has one himself, but I swear I saw similar devices in what I think is supposed to be *Sandrone's* part of the Experimental Design Bureau. Though I don't know if it's just her part or shared among the Harbingers. So half check.
Tesla coil? I don't know.
Roof that opens to the sky? Check, because the first boss fight area is technically part of his lab and he opens the false sky with his finger to reveal the real sky.
A 1960s-style mainframe computer with big dials and switches on the front? Check.
A whole bunch of glassware? Check, in the Eleazar laboratory.
Chains and/or manacles? Kinda. I've seen chains, but not ones that functioned as restraints. Still, he most likely does use chains as restraints in some way.
A big worn chalkboard? Check, in the Eleazar laboratory.
Dusty piles of incomprehensible failed experiments? Check.
Being located some remote sinister place that may be haunted? Check. There's no way the Eleazar hospital wasn't already haunted back then, it's basically for certain. Also, the segment in Mondstadt had his lab located in a *cave*.
Big levers or control panels? Check.
Ginormous knife switches? I think I saw one, but I'm not sure.
An oscilloscope? Check, although I didn't see it display a Lissajous pattern.
Bits of animals and people preserved in formaldehyde? Maybe animals, but so far didn't see any people. But there's no way he didn't do it at some point.
Caged creatures? Check.
Additional points mentioned through the article:
Death rays? Sorta? He has been seen using huge lazers before, but I don't know if they truly count.
Multiple labs in different points of their Home Base? Check.
Devices from many scientific diciplines and fields? HUGE CHECK.
Most of it looks like chemistry? Nope, glassware is not one of the most prominent features.
Very elaborate for someone who usually does not appear to have anyone funding them, let alone working for them? The first point is a check. While Pantalone did fund Dottore's labs, he is just one man. To me, it's a mystery how Dottore could have such influence and so many well kept labs for centuries when everyone in and outside of the Fatui, except for Pantalone, hated him. But he did appear to have workers, though I don't know how voluntary they are.
Equipment is huge, bulky, unwieldy, and difficult to transport and assemble for just one man, even with an assistant? Check.
Influence from the looks of labs run by Nikola Tesla? Check.
And the results are: He passed! I don't know if he can be considered a mad scientist himself though. He is very calm and also extremely hot. But his labs? They definitely have that vibe. If a room or game environment design could aurafarm, as with people and characters, Dottore's labs would be the best environment aurafarms in all Hoyoverse games that have ever existed.
