Anyone else realise some "cheap" decisions end up costing mental energy?

Been thinking about this lately.

I’m pretty frugal by nature, which is probably why leanFIRE appeals to me in the first place. I tend to optimise for saving money wherever I can, but I’ve started wondering if sometimes I overdo it.

Example: I own a rental and for ages I kept trying to minimise costs around managing it. The logic was always, "why pay more if I can just handle parts of it myself?"

But honestly, the mental overhead has been way more expensive than I expected. Emails, maintenance stuff, random issues popping up when you least expect it… it takes up more headspace than I’d like.

Recently I started looking into whether paying more for better systems/management is actually the more leanFIRE-friendly move long term. Ended up reading through a few options, while trying to figure out what people realistically outsource vs keep in-house.

Curious where others here land on this - do you spend more in certain areas specifically to reduce life admin and stress, or do you generally DIY everything?
