AI detectors are a dead end. We can now interview student’s on their work on a large scale with this tool.
It’s a constant cat-and-mouse chase that destroys student trust with false positives and turns grading into an interrogation. Every week a new AI model comes out that their detector isn’t trained on.
Instead of trying to police the document, we need to verify the learning. If a student wrote the essay, they should be able to be interviewed on it.
I built a platform called Dubbel to automate this. When students submit an assignment, Dubbel generates a 5-minute custom quiz tailored specifically to the arguments and sources in each individual paper.
Here is how it works for the entire classroom at scale:
- You share a session code, and the whole class joins a live lobby.
- You launch the customized quizzes for all students simultaneously.
- They take the 5-minute check on a locked-down browser (tab-switching or minimizing instantly locks their screen, requiring your approval to re-enter).
- A "Radar" dashboard aggregates the auto-scored results across all your classes, highlighting students who are struggling with red/yellow trend dots so you know exactly who needs attention.
- Free response answers are left in your hands to grade.
If they wrote the paper, they pass easily. If AI wrote it, they won't be able to defend "their own" arguments. It effectively scales the "oral defense" so you can stop relying on unreliable detection algorithms. Also works for coding assignments. I'm looking for a few new pilot teachers to run some sessions and shape this idea for the future https://dubbel.me/
