Location: Virginia. I bought a used car from a dealer, paid in full and got temp tags for it. The dealer asked me to come back and sign the title docs about 2.5 weeks after. When I went back he had my metal plates ready but he told me to re-sign all original sale paperwork (including a changed odometer disclosure) with the ORIGINAL SALE DATE alongside the title docs before releasing my title/plates. I asked him why and he said "thats just the process I don't know" and I should go ask DMV. He then starts trying to force me to sign it after we go back and forth and telling me "if I don't sign it now my temp tags will expire, and I'll have to come back but he won't allow me because I'll be banned from his property after today" and "I can't allow you leave with our vehicle so you will have to uber home if you don't sign everything, I will call the police". Obviously I knew he had no right to do that and he was just trying to pressure me. I eventually left with my car and didn't go back. My temp tags expire at the end of the month and I personally do not feel safe going back to that dealership. I am also not signing the new paperwork as it is different from the original when I made the purchase. What do I do? I tried calling DMV but they said they cant do anything since the dealership is meant to do the title work on my behalf and the only thing I can do is talk it out with them.
