Is a Trade Up Challenge Taboo at this point in the hobby?

Ive been a collector for about 12 years at this point, my first and favorite set of all time was Break Through. I have my first card show coming up soon and i wanted to try a trade up challenge, but i’ve seen discourse online about them. I would like to give one a try but i don’t want to be an issue at a show. What do y’all think?
