How to use resin bits?

I've always made my bases with texture paint and cork and I want to take them up a notch by adding resin bits like the ones from GamersGrass or Epic Basing, but I'm weary of it as I've never worked with resin before.

In the pictures they come on sprues, so I'd have clip them off. Won't doing this for all those bits create tons of toxic dust? I was thinking of doing it outside and using water to minimize the dust. If you've worked with resin bits like that before, do you have any advice on the process and how to handle it safely?
