Feeling Stuck.
I'm in Michigan and have been working for a State Farm agent as a producer for the past 3 years. I'm naive and signed a non-compete that says I cannot work for a competitor within 30 miles or remote from anywhere. It's pretty aggressive and so is the owner. I've been told by a lawyer that anyone can sue for anything and there's a risk even if I work for another competitor outside of that radius. He didn't formally look over the non-compete and I wouldn't ever solicit her clients.
My pay is okay but the benefits are terrible and I want a better career path without moving out of state or becoming a state farm agent.
Has anyone ever dealt with this? I know enforceability varies by state.
