How to speak kindly to myself without feeling silly?
This may sound silly and I’m sorry if I don’t post correctly. This is my first time using Reddit.
I grew up in a tough love household. It was an adults yell a lot household but also an affectionate and fun one. Unfortunately I have suffered with anxiety since I was a child (29F now) but never thought I had a reason to be anxious, which caused me to hate myself for being “weak”.
Since I have moved out I have discovered slowly that I am sensitive and respond better to understanding and kind motivation, not tough love, suck it up, we do not fail etc. talk. It put so much pressure on me as a kid and adult to be perfect, not embarrass the family, be better than those around me etc. It is to the point that I had to quit sports and activities because my nervous system is fried. If I’m standing at bat in baseball, everyone can see my arms and legs physically shaking from so much anxiety.
This is day 1 of being kind to myself and am looking for advice on how to do that. Being kind to myself feels very silly to me and I get embarrassed even though it is only myself witnessing it. Has anyone else been on the journey and if so, any tips? Thank you!
