Horseshoe Meadows Camping Availability

My friends and I have a permit for Whitney on the 16th, and I think it would be a good idea to camp the night before (Monday the 15th) at horseshoe meadows so we are better acclimated. Are there reliably available walk-in spots to camp on weekdays if we were to drive up from socal and get there lunchtime/early afternoon?
