What a Joke!

Chosen as a volunteer in Dallas at the International Broadcast Center (IBC) in Access Management. Besides all the missteps and disorganization by FIFA and local leads, basically the job is sitting in a room at the convention center with 6-8 other volunteers during your 6-hour shift with NOTHING to do.... literally NOTHING to do. The irony being that it's at the IBC where all the broadcasts, VAR, etc for the entire tournament are sent from yet they are unable to put a TV or monitor in the room for volunteers to watch games...while they are sitting their doing NOTHING!!! They have been cancelling afternoon shifts because there's nothing for volunteers to do and now, we are hearing all of the afternoon shifts through the end of the tournament will be cancelled. Basically, the volunteers walk around with the paid FIFA lead switching out batteries at the different checkpoints. The catch is, the volunteers aren't allowed to handle the batteries because they are expensive, so they walk with the FIFA lead to wherever the new battery is needed....8 volunteers/shift walking around with a paid lead like a bunch of ducklings following their mother. Hey, at least I got some new neon and purple clothes and new tennis shoes/socks - thanks FIFA for the truly remarkable and memorable World Cup experience!!
