I Need some advice and opinions
Hello all. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I am a 24 year old male currently in the process of joining the military as an officer. I qualify and submitted my package for Immediate Selection to become a Supply Corps Officer with an 68 OAR and 3.95 GPA Undergrad business degree.
The Suppo pipeline is very backed up currently, I haven’t received any official selection letter, but my recruiter showed me a screenshot of my name being “selected” with an OCS date of FY28.
Now, this is where my head spins daily. I can’t find a stable civilian job I seem to somewhat enjoy. I had a decent job, but I took a risk and left that job to study for the OAR. My recruiter said I would be out to OCS in a few months if I met I-SEL, so I feel a little mislead.
I’m looking for opinions or advice from others. I can find entry level roles, but it’s hard for me to find something that is sustainable, or higher level than entry level, or something without ridiculous hours. Im thankfully supposed by my parents which gives me a lot of flexibility. However, I think about the time I’m wasting waiting on this whole officer process and think about enlisting daily. I started a new role recently and it just makes me feel worthless. I feel like I’m wasting my time at these random jobs when I could be serving.
I was a former collegiate football player so that feeling of serving something greater than yourself has always been in me.
It’s a long storyline, but would anyone recommend waiting out the whole OCS route, or just enlisting and starting my military career? Again, I’m financially fine with the help of my parents and have some money saved up as well, but I can’t keep thinking about the fact I’d have to wait over a year to go to OCS and become an officer. It’s killing me.
(I’m aware of the enlisted vs officer lifestyle)
