Why are the most fun options the least viable and vice versa?

for example, i love witch crest and cross stitch but they seem almost unusable against any of the hard or in some cases, unfair (looking at you, GROAL) bosses, but thing like the wanderers crest or silkspear are almost objectively the strongest ones but i have no fun using them, am i just forced to not have fun to progress?
