No character creation when joining friend's game?

Hey everyone! I just got Witchspire and joined a friend's game to play. However, when I did it started me immediately off in the tutorial with drinking a health potion and did not allow me to customize or create a character. Has anyone had this issue? Also I was hoping maybe I could delete said character or there would be an option to make changes after the tutorial, but there wasn't.

So am I stuck playing a default female character with a male's voice or is there a way for me to start anew? T.T
