Need help with the new update!

Im really confused on how the new update works- I played an airship minigame where I steer it but I could only earn 500 coins (compared to the around 1.5k from the boats and diving) I also get pop ups at night to get on the ship, but no coins appear we just float around? If anyone could help me out it would mean a lot :D
