HTPC Keyboards That Are Good (and don't make me want to violently smash my head into my computer)?
For the love of god, are there any of these that aren't terrible per the standards of the year 2026? Feels like I've been searching for years thinking surely someone will have come out with a decent option for a keyboard/touchpad combo that's couch-friendly, but I am consistently disappointed.
For years now, I've been juggling between the old Logitech K400+ and one of those generic no-name Chinese pads that looks kinda like a game controller, as each one has a super finicky and inconsistent connection, among other problems. The touchpads on both are terrible and always have been, and they sporadically jump from being too sensitive and misclicking all over the place to being unresponsive for seemingly no reason even with fresh batteries and/or a full charge.
I love having designated media and mouse buttons, and ideally I'd like something with an actual Windows/Cmd key and FN key (I'm not sure why this isn't a given but apparently it's always a toss-up). I also feel like backlit keys are a must but again, for some reason, this isn't guaranteed for keyboards that frequently get most of their use from a dimly lit home theater environment.
I've read about the old Logitech K830 but they're prohibitively expensive on the used market and I'm not excited to invest hundreds of dollars into now >10-year-old tech with no support and no options for repair/replacement. I think I saw a Microsoft keyboard suggested but it too has been out of stock whenever I see a link to it. I see Framework is allegedly launching their own this year but it doesn't seem to be out yet and it seems to be marketed as a more premium option rather than a budget work horse.
Does anyone else have suggestions? How on earth have you people been getting by with your own HTPC setups? Didn't mention it earlier, but I've also run the gamut of different rando-devices off of Amazon over the years and ended up returning every single one. I am so desperate and frustrated at having to switch around different keyboards even within the same 10-minute YouTube video or just within this very same Reddit post because one of them decided it didn't feel like staying synced. Do not even get me started on the abysmally trashy touchpad on the K400+.
