I can't find a job with my degree. What should I do next? :(
Hey everyone,
I'm sorry this is a long post, I'm just not sure what to do next.
I just graduated with a degree in Public Policy this past Spring. I know it's not the most relevant degree, but it really intrigued me - I was an IT major before, but I was just struggling with math.
I was working at a retail chain, I was making $22/hr (with really great benefits, I'm not going to lie). I left that job that I'd been with for 5-6 years (since I started college), but left once and came back in 2023. I absolutely loved that job, but it was retail, and I graduated, and I wanted a "real job". However, I left a few months ago, as I had a great opportunity to become a flight attendant with a well known major US airline. The pay was going to be really, really great, almost 2x what I was making. After a year long intense and competitive interview process, I was offered a conditional offer and began training a few months afterwards. Unfortunately, I was not successful in training and was dismissed.
I now have no job. I'm fortunate I have the opportunity to still live at home with family, but I'm trying to get on my own feet again.
I've tried county/nonprofit jobs/large companies, and I've barely had any luck. I only got one interview from a food bank that was willing to pay me $21/hr (with great benefits) but it's an hour away, and one with AmeriCorp - but it's like 1.5hrs away for that job. Both of those jobs don't even require a college degree.
I feel worthless, drained, and unsure of what to do next. I can barely even get a retail job. I thought about going back to that job, but it's a bit "awkward" for me to go back, and I'm just ready to get a real job. I know I shouldn't complain, as I can barely even find a job that even pays as my job I had before, in today's economy and job market.
