Keeping a childhood memory alive in the stars: The Satilla River Tuplar
(There's a picture of the original tree in the link below. I tried like blazes to upload it here, but Reddit says "Unable to Load", and I can't figure out why.)
On December 12, 2025, I finally deployed my Dodecahedron station in Col 285 Sector WL-L c8-40. While some commanders have mixed feelings about the Dodec, for a solo colonizer with massive infrastructure plans, it was a total game-changer.
I decided to name this station the SATILLA RIVER TUPLAR.
Naming it wasn’t just about filling a slot; it was about preserving a ghost. I grew up on the Satilla River, and for generations, my family found peace under the shade of a massive tree we called the "Tuplar." It was a local colloquialism—now lost to time and search engines—for a giant Tupelo tree that anchored our favorite fishing spot.
The tree died years ago, and my generation will likely be the last to remember it. By anchoring this name in Elite Dangerous, I’m making sure that even if the real-world landmark is gone, the memory has a home in the black.
I wrote a full history of the tree, the river, and why I chose this specific name over on my blog. The Satilla River Tuplar Tree
(Note: I wrote the blog, but used Gemini to create this briefer version.)
