Accepted a UK job offer — worried about employment verification discrepancy

I recently accepted a role in the UK that is subject to background checks and employment verification.

Before moving to the UK for my master’s, I worked at a few small companies in India. One of my previous roles was officially a creative role at a very small founder-led company (around 3 months, no HR department, limited formal processes).

When I started applying for more commercial and management-focused roles in the UK, I found my applications weren’t getting much traction. I eventually adapted some job titles and reframed parts of my experience to better align with the roles I was targeting.

The employment is genuine, the company is real, the dates are correct, and my qualifications are genuine. My concern is that one previous employer may confirm a different title than the one I used on my CV.

My additional concern is that I haven’t spoken to the founder in around two years. The role didn’t end badly, but it wasn’t an especially close relationship either, so I genuinely don’t know how supportive they would be if contacted.

The background screening is being done through Oracle. Does anyone know whether Oracle/its screening partners typically verify all previous employment or only recent employment? Also, would you proactively contact the previous employer and explain the situation, or wait to see whether they’re contacted as part of the verification process?
