Child/Youth Focus in MSW
I will be beginning my second semester of my MSW in the fall, and began reflecting on what I want my focus area to be when writing a scholarship essay recently. I work for a foster care agency currently, and assumed that because of the work conditions and my ethical issues with the current child welfare system, that I would not pursue an emphasis in children and youth. However, I'm really energized by and inspired by interventions like U of Minnesota's Institute to Transform Child Welfare and their training in rethinking mandatory reporting.
I also talked with a classmate and she noted it was odd for me to be passionate about this and yet not consider a children and youth emphasis.
I am wondering what careers would be available that wouldn't be rank and file at children's services or another foster care agency. Any ideas? A macro or policy focus would be awesome too, but I know those jobs can also be hard to find.
