How much does medication really help with rumination? Moved into a new apartment this morning and have been spiraling since. It's as if I've convinced myself I've made the worst decision possible and I'm going to be miserable.
So when I was younger, my OCD was primarily related to rituals for door locking, making sure stoves are off, etc. Basically, things that can potentially lead to death or someone breaking in.
I've gotten somewhat past that as an adult, but it seems like now my OCD is focused mainly internally. A lot of it is extreme doubt/uncertainty about life decisions, and then it's as if my mind creates the absolute worst scenario possible. It's like I have to be 150% sure and certain about my decision, otherwise I feel panic/dread.
My only way to overcome said discomfort is by getting reassurance from someone else, whether it be on reddit, IRL, etc. Once I see or read or hear that someone has went through my same position, or if anything WORSE, and they got by, I then feel a bit more assured.
My most recent thing is, that I've moved into an apartment. Before that I was in employee housing, and before that, apartment with a partner. We have since then broken up in September, which is why I moved into employee housing temporarily.
My fears are that with it being a smaller unit (studio), that my cat won't like it and he'll be sad. I also fear that it'll never feel "homey" and it's just going to be my bed and computer desk. When I first began moving into the new apartment this morning, I was excited and hopeful.
But now that I've began the process, I am getting to the point where I feel nothing but dread/regret. It's like as if I've convinced myself that there is no chance I'll be happy, and that I'll be spending the next year struggling financially, barely able to make ends meet and it's like I'm spiraling.
I hate this. I am supposed to be excited about moving into this place and a new chapter of my life, but my OCD is just clinging onto every negative thing that can possibly happen. I hate that it's like I need reassurance via Google for literally almost what feels like every aspect and decision of my life.
I had gotten back into medication last April for my OCD, Anxiety and Depression. My biggest issue I feel like is OCD rituals and constantly seeking reassurance through google.
I am wondering, is it worth it to try different medication? Or am I just not trying enough? I've heard meds can help, but I'm not sure to what extent. Like, does your anxiety/urge to want to get reassurance lessen?
