Has anyone here been put in a guardianship because of their n-parent(s)?
I've posted on this account before, but going to try and keep personal details vague given my situation.
But the title is what I'm asking. Narcs putting their children or even threatening to put their children into guardianships seems to be a more niche form of exercising control, but I want to see how many of us are out there.
I signed myself into a guardianship by my n-mom (although my dad is also on it) at 18 without being given the fine print, and finally realizing how restrictive they are last year (at 24) devastated me. Unfortunately, my mom had more leverage because I'm physically disabled and have autism, but I am not in a wheelchair nor need any form of intensive mobility aid or anything else to help me function. I am autistic, but I do not feel that it's on any level that I would require this arrangement to be in place or need to go to any sort of long-term facility for disabled or autistic people; many other people in my life think the same. My last two therapists were genuinely shocked when I told them that I'm in one because I articulate myself very well verbally and in writing.
My mom has emotionally abused me my entire life, but I told myself that I was being too sensitive despite her constantly threatening me as a toddler to spank me over anything she saw as unacceptable—even mistakes literally every kid makes—and she even told me that she hated me years down the line. There's much more than this and the list can go on, but like I said, I'm trying to be as semi-anonymous as I can right now.
I've been saving money, though I still don't feel it's enough, but this has been such a lonely endeavor both because I have to plan with very few people being able to tangibly help me and because this is such a specific, overreaching form of control that I rarely hear about. Is there anyone on here who's had to deal with this? I know that this ended up being a ramble rather than a short question, but I think I also want to know if there's light at the end of the tunnel.
