Hey all! My cat Charlie is about 15/16yo and \~12lbs. We have known for a while that his teeth aren’t great and have been giving him 1/4th can of wet food each night as a treat (he free feeds dry during the day). We’re taking him to the vet tomorrow because he’s lost a lot of weight and is lethargic/eating minimal amounts of food/water, and i’m worried that the vet is going to need to pull several teeth. He has never been to a vet before other than to get neutered and shots as a kitten. 

Anyways, my mom and I have agreed he would be best suited on an all wet-food diet because he barely touches the dry food but after doing research I realized for a cat his size he needs around 2-3 cans a day. We cannot afford to do that, but we also don’t want him to be in pain and starve. I found this brand of cat food on Chewy and it’s incredibly affordable, but i’m worried about some of the ingredients. 

He’s currently eating Purina cat chow and fancy feast, and i’ve compared the ingredients and they are not that far off, but should I be worried that water is the first ingredient on this flavor? The other flavors don’t have water as their first ingredient but Charlie really likes liver in his wet food which is why i’m looking for advice on this specific can. 

If anyone can tell me if they think this is good or equivalent to fancy feast that would be great, or if you know of affordable wet foods with liver that we can buy lots of. I don’t think we can afford more than \~$30/mo on cat food, though maybe some budget changes are in order. Fancy feast would be $52 a month and that is just not something I think we can do.
