How bad did I mess up my outboard?

I just dropped it in today. Spent the last week painting, sanding, varnishing, servicing the engine/oil change,lower gear oil, fuel filter etc...

So i got it in and wanted to bring it out to open it up. I went about 1/2 mile at slow slow speed and it started bucking and died. had never opened it up. tried starting it a few times to no avail. Paddled it back to launch and investigated. For fucks sake I had forgotten to put the water plug back in where I plug the hose in to flush it etc....I live 6 houses up from the launch so I put the plug in, started it and weater weas flowing just fine. I let it idle for approx 5 minutes. Started to being it up to my house and while it got me there it felt klike it was going to stall/lagging.

How fucked am I? What should I do moving forward?

30hp suzuki 2022 model. 13 foot whaler.
