AI video generation is only half the problem
I’ve been building the video workflow inside ContentGenia (https://app.contentgenia.com), and one thing that has become very clear is that raw generation quality is only part of the challenge.
At first, it’s easy to think the main problem is “which model gives the best output?”
But once you try to turn AI video into something usable for real content creation, the harder problem is workflow.
A few things stood out to me:
- Generating a clip is not the same as creating a usable video. A single clip can look impressive on its own, but turning that into a coherent video with multiple scenes is a very different problem.
- Most of the pain comes from tool switching. A lot of people end up using one tool for images, another for video generation, and another for editing or assembly. The quality of each individual output matters, but the workflow overhead becomes a problem very quickly.
- The real need is refinement, not just generation. The biggest pain point is usually not “I can’t generate anything.” It’s “scene 2 is weak, and I don’t want to redo the whole video just to fix that one part.”
- Assembly is undervalued. People talk a lot about model quality, but much less about what it takes to stitch scenes together into something that actually feels usable. In practice, assembly ends up being a huge part of the workflow.
- Consistency is harder than novelty. Getting one surprising result is relatively easy. Getting several scenes that feel like they belong together is much harder, especially when the goal is marketing or brand content rather than pure experimentation.
That shifted how I think about AI video products.
The more interesting product problem is not just “how do we generate video?”
It’s “how do we help someone go from idea to usable final output without making them manage a complicated stack of prompts, assets, tools, and editing steps?”
That’s where I think a lot of the real value still is.
Curious whether others building or using AI video tools have found the same thing, especially around scene-by-scene refinement and final assembly.
