Got a Kuku Bird Chick from Bloodsteel Camp instead of the mount?

I beat the boss at Bloodsteel Camp, got the egg and read the book in the tower. I went and hatched the egg it gave me and it gave me a Kuku Bird Chick instead of the mount? I just went back to Bloodsteel Camp and there's no other eggs up there. What did I do wrong? Can I still get the mount?
