The Rhode Pop-Up Criticism Is Starting to Feel Excessive

Discussion

The amount of hate the Rhode pop-up is getting feels a little over the top at this point.

I'm not saying the event is perfect or that there isn't room for improvement, but some of the complaints seem unfair. A lot of the things people are upset about were pretty predictable if you did a little research beforehand. Rhode pop-ups have always drawn huge crowds, so long lines shouldn't be a surprise.

I've also seen people complain about the heat and being outside for long periods of time. If you knew you were going to be standing in the sun for hours, why wouldn't you come prepared with sunscreen, water, an umbrella, or a fan? Those are basic things that are ultimately your responsibility.

On top of that, Rhode did provide things for attendees, including food, drinks, and umbrellas. Could there have been more? Sure. But when thousands of people are showing up, it's unrealistic to expect there to be enough umbrellas or accommodations for every single person at all times. The demand clearly exceeded what any brand could easily prepare for.

Another thing I don't understand is why some people seem upset that Hailey didn't show up. It's a Rhode pop-up, not a Hailey Bieber meet-and-greet. Unless Rhode specifically promised an appearance, I don't think that's a fair expectation.

I've also seen complaints about the influencer dinner, but Rhode has hosted influencer events and dinners around launches before. That's not some new or unusual thing. Influencers are part of the brand's marketing strategy, they attend these events, create content, and introduce products to their audiences. You don't have to like influencer marketing, but acting shocked that a beauty brand invited influencers to a launch event doesn't really make sense.

Constructive criticism is completely valid, and Rhode should absolutely learn from any issues that came up. But some of the reaction feels less like constructive feedback and more like people looking for reasons to be angry. If the event wasn't worth the wait for you, that's fair. But a lot of the criticism seems to ignore what was communicated beforehand and the reality of how large Rhode events typically are.
