Noncompete clause for remote position

Hey everyone!

I was lucky enough (or maybe not you decide) to get an offer for a position at a startup company. They’re based out of a state that allows noncompete clauses, while I live in a state that is probably the best at striking down noncompetes.

What could I check for in the offer letter/nda paperwork to make sure I’m not waiving my state’s rights here? I don’t want to be at the whim of wherever the remote company is.

First time I’ve ever seen a noncompete clause and very unsure of how to approach this potentially with the hiring manager or if this is just a deal breaker. I love the idea of this job but can’t hemorrhage my future here with this.
