I am a transgender Christian biologist. Ask me anything!

Hey there! I’m not comfortable showing my face on here so hopefully a bad picture of my pet fish will suffice, lol.

I’m 20 FtM, pronouns he/they. I started this account to show off my betta fish Topaz, but I’ve been thinking about doing an AMA for a long time and I’m finally getting around to it! I’ll try to answer without revealing too much information because we’re a small enough group that things could quickly become identifying. To most people I’m a “triple oxymoron” of sorts. A lot of people think of these identities as mutually exclusive, but I’m living proof they’re not!

Title is basically it. I am a practicing Christian, no particular denomination except most of the things I attend are Lutheran. I’ve identified as transmasculine for ~2.5 years, and been on testosterone for ~1.5. While not technically a biologist by job title, I’m currently studying biology and environmental science, and I have enough research and teaching experience where I feel comfortable using the term for discussion purposes.

Before you ask:

  • I just use the term queer, I guess pan is closest.
  • I am in a committed monogamous relationship with another transmasculine person.
  • I am in the USA. I’m in a supportive blue state (thank God) but I won’t share which one for privacy purposes.

For the sake of discussion nothing is off limits. I will respond honestly if a question is too revealing or too personal to answer. I enjoy any type of conversation about these things, so I look forward to it! I hope to dispel some myths, reduce the amount of hatred and misunderstanding in the world, and yap about myself :)

Ask me anything!
