Burning back pain from many triggers. Doctor stumped. Could this be fibromyalgia?
7 months ago, I quit daily drinking a couple glasses of wine a night. When I did drink again on weekends, I would get this burning pain in my back and arms that lasted about two days. Pain came on about 18 hours after drinking. I stopped drinking for awhile bc I felt completely pain-free along as I didn’t have alcohol. I tried drinking a few more times, always to the same effect, no matter how small the amount even 1/2 a drink. I haven’t touched alcohol in 3 months.
More recently, I took a microdose of psilocybin which I never tried before and I had a horrible pain flare that lasted for 2 days. Ok so I will never try that again but I should be good.
Oh how wrong I was, since then, the last two weeks, my life has gone downhill considerably. Tai weekends ago, when I took Advil for period cramps I had a pain flair so bad it lasted for 24 hours. Burning Pain in back radiating into arms. Some tingling in hands.
Now last weekend, I realized a cup of coffee set off a flare that has lasted pretty much all week on and off. Had the coffee Sunday. Felt horrible 4 hours later and this lasted into Monday night. Monday the pain was on and off but worse in the evening. Thursday i was finally pain free and was pain free all day today (Friday) until i got back from the gym.
I just joined a gym today bc I thought swimming would help with the pain. As soon as I got in my car, I felt the familiar slight knot in my middle back to the right of my spine. I was worried but thought maybe it would pass. It sadly has not. It has escalated to a full blown flair with no obvious food or drug trigger.
When the pain is coming on it is often accompanied by a ravenously hungry feeling (although I had just eaten.)
Today’s timeline. Felt good all day. Strawberry pop tart and slim Jim before swimming at 3:30. 5 pm pain flair started mildly. 5:30 ate half a cheesesteak. Now 7:30, pain has escalated and is looking to be a full blown flare again.
I took magnesium and b complex to help on Monday bc I read it is good for nerve pain and it was a godsend.
Doctor dismissed the idea of nerve pain and sent me to a useless allergist appointment. I’ve had spinal X-rays that are normal. I’m getting blood work for Lyme tomorrow and have an appointment in a month with a rheumatologist to check for connective tissue disorders. Any insights are appreciated. This is a living nightmare .
