I’m going to try to finish my book

Discussion

After so many struggles and years of feeling like I’m not going in any direction with my writing, I’ve decided that I need to face my fear and try to at least complete an unfinished novel that I’ve been working on for six years.

I felt like I’ve held myself back for so long. I felt like I didn’t have a plan or an idea. Sometimes I did things I wasn’t supposed to do, which was editing as I go along, but that process only slowed me down. I was worried about making my writing perfect. There were even times that I felt like I wasn’t a good enough writer. Some days I didn’t even feel like writing. Maybe it was either lack of motivation, or things just happen where I needed to put it on hold just to take care of something. Then my writing began to collect dust.

My book is something I don’t want to give up on. I love the idea of the story and I want it to go somewhere. I already have so many plans for a series, but I feel that getting the first book done is always the hardest. Do I have an idea on how I’m going to finish it? No. Does that mean I should give up? Absolutely not. From what I’ve learned writers do face challenges like these and they still publish some of the best work ever. I think all it does is it takes encouragement from others not to give up, even if the writing is not perfect the first time, but it’s not supposed to be anyway. I’ve realized I’m just going to think as I go along and if I like some I’ll keep it, and if not, I’m hoping I’ll at least figure out what to do. After all, I’ve heard the saying that you can’t edit a blank page. Even in my most challenging time trying to complete this, I know it will all be worth it in the end.
