GeneSight results - MET/MET COMT genotype
I got my GeneSight results back today and not only has it validated that SSRIs don’t work for me, it has also given me more answers. I have been labeled as a “difficult patient” in the hospital before because I refuse to try SSRIs, they trigger SI in me every time and the risk is just too high for me.
The results confirmed that my serotonin transporter gene isn’t fully developed, so it significantly decreases the likelihood of SSRIs being metabolized correctly.
What I found more interesting though was that I have the MET/MET COMT genotype, which has been linked to excessive levels of dopamine due to less-active enzymes. Higher levels of dopamine have been associated with hypersensitivity to stress, higher levels of anxiety, and bigger, emotional reactions which I feel explains why I had been misdiagnosed with BPD before. I also read a study also found a link between this genotype and OCD in men (but not women, so I’m taking it with a grain of salt).
Curious to know if anyone else has done GeneSight and found genetic mutations as well?
I went through half of the DSM-5 before I was correctly diagnosed with OCD 3 years ago, and I’m excited to know that there is still hope for relief.
