College kids selling magazines has new twist

This could be legit, but this 100% sounded like the “scam” where a nice college kids, usually foreign accent, are selling books, magazines etc. Often they get points towards something .. but you never get what you bought. I can remember a Dragnet episode from the 60s with very theme. YMMV & buyer beware
