Is reincarnation tied to karma?

Question

Been thinking a lot about reincarnation lately, and about how much choice spirits get for how they reincarnate.

How many of you believe that what you reincarnate into is directly correlated to your net karma in a previous life? Does an altruistic previous life mean you ascend to a better reincarnation and vice versa?

I think about how fortunate I am in life and the many blessings, luck, and privilege I have experienced, and I’m overcome with the idea that I either had a precious life that was extremely terrible and I was allowed to live with the amazing life I have now, or if I just lived a good life previously so now I’m afforded a good reincarnation.

Or, do you believe it is completely random, or do we get to decide for ourselves the kind of life we want to reincarnate into? If that’s the case, did I just choose to live a privileged life?

Everyday I feel guilt and gratitude that I’m not a child in a war torn country halfway across the world, but why? Did the child do something in a previous life that was bad and now they are facing punishment by living a cruel and unjust life?

I have a deep sense of justice, and I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around reincarnation if karma isn’t involved.
